The Ishi Japanese cast iron teapot pairs cast iron with a stone-like texture, reminiscent of raw rock, with a handle and lid in a copper-tone finish. With its generous 1.2 litre capacity, it is designed to brew and serve tea for several people, and the cast iron keeps it hot for longer.

  • Cast iron with a stone-like texture, enamelled interior
  • Large capacity: 1.2 L, around 5 to 6 cups
  • Brewing teapot: heat water separately, never on the hob
  • Heat retention: cast iron keeps tea hot for longer
  • Handle and lid in a copper tone, openwork knob
  • 60-day returns, tracked shipping

● A cast iron teapot for brewing and serving tea

The Ishi is a brewing teapot: heat the water in a kettle, then pour it over the leaves directly in the teapot. Its enamelled interior protects the cast iron and makes it easier to look after.

Cast iron stores heat and releases it slowly, so your tea stays hot far longer than in a glass or porcelain teapot. Ideal for a large 1.2 L teapot served over several cups.

● Ishi: stone and copper tones

Ishi means “stone” in Japanese. The teapot's textured, matte surface recalls raw stone weathered by time, in the understated spirit of Japanese aesthetics.

In contrast, the tall arched handle and copper-tone lid add a touch of warmth. The lid's openwork knob with a red accent completes a teapot full of character, on the table or on display.

● Making tea with your Ishi teapot

  1. Warm the teapot with a little hot water, then empty it.
  2. Heat water in a kettle and let it cool to suit your tea: around 70–80 °C for Japanese green tea, 90–95 °C for black tea.
  3. Place the leaves in the teapot, pour in the water and brew for the time recommended for your tea.
  4. Serve straight away, and remove the leaves once the tea has brewed to avoid bitterness.

● FAQ: Ishi Japanese cast iron teapot

Can the Ishi teapot be used on the hob?

No. The Ishi is a brewing teapot: its interior is enamelled and it must never be placed on a flame or hob. Heat the water separately in a kettle, then pour it into the teapot to brew your tea.

Why choose a Japanese cast iron teapot?

Cast iron stores heat and releases it slowly, so your tea stays hot far longer than in a glass or porcelain teapot. Sturdy and durable, a cast iron teapot lasts for years and brings real decorative presence to your table.

What is the capacity of the Ishi teapot?

The Ishi teapot holds 1.2 litres, around 5 to 6 cups. It is a large size, ideal for serving tea to family or friends, or for keeping several cups warm throughout the afternoon.

What temperature should the water be for tea?

Heat the water in a kettle, then let it cool to suit your tea: around 70–80 °C for a Japanese green tea such as sencha, and 90–95 °C for black tea. Water that is too hot makes green tea bitter.

Why is the inside of the teapot enamelled?

The enamel coats the cast iron inside the teapot: it protects it from moisture and from direct contact with the tea, which makes it easier to look after. The trade-off is that an enamelled teapot is for brewing only and never goes on the heat.

How do I care for an enamelled cast iron teapot?

Rinse it with hot water after each use, without abrasive sponges, and never in the dishwasher. Empty it completely, wipe the outside and leave it to dry with the lid open. Avoid thermal shock, such as cold water in a very hot teapot.

What is the difference between the Ishi and Nami teapots?

The Nami is an 800 ml teapot-kettle that can heat water on a gas hob, with a wave design. The Ishi is a 1.2 litre brewing teapot with a stone-like texture and copper-tone finish, and it does not go on the heat. The Ishi is better suited to serving more people.

What does Ishi mean?

Ishi means “stone” in Japanese. The name refers to the teapot's textured surface, which recalls raw stone, in contrast with its copper-tone handle and lid.

Is the Ishi teapot a good gift?

Yes. Beautiful, durable and useful every day, a Japanese cast iron teapot makes a wonderful gift for tea lovers and fans of Japanese culture. Paired with teacups, it becomes a complete Japanese tea set.

Can I return the teapot?

Yes. You have 60 days to return your teapot if it is not right for you. Shipping is tracked and our customer support team is happy to answer your questions before and after your order.
